With advanced organizational and technical skills honed from a vocational background on housekeeping, he is a dependable co-worker efficient in materials handling and maintenance, as well as production assistance.

Daniel A. Coquilla

Movie Equipment Technician III

Daniel “Dansoy” Coquilla (born 1970, Panabo City, Davao del Norte) majored in painting at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Fine Arts, where he also received the UP Gawad Chanselor para sa Sining Biswal in 1998. Known for his witty, satirical, and whimsical portrayals of urban locales, and their inhabitants who he depicts all looking upwards at the viewer, Coquilla is a multi-awarded artist in national and international competitions. ~e garnered two Juror’s Choice (Top 5) awards in the 1997 Philip Morris Philippine and AS!;AN Art Awards, and has also been Grand Prize and Juror’s Choice winner in AAP Competitions, as well as a finalist in the Metrobank and Shell National Painting Competitions. He was likewise a Philippine Representative (Top 5) to the Windsor & Newton World-Wide Millenium Painting Competition. In 2006, he was awarded a Thirteen Artists Award by the Cultural Centre of the Philippines. To date, he exhibited solo shows, two of which are held in Singapore and twenty-nine more in the Philippines. He currently works as a Movie Equipment Technician Ill at the UP Film Institute.

Ezelyn Astrera-Junio

Media Production Aide

Ezelyn Astrera-Junio currently serves as a Media Production Aide at the UP Film Institute of the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she also works as the Department Secretary for the Academic Section. In this capacity, she provides administrative and academic support to faculty members and students, particularly in coordinating academic requirements and student-related concerns within the institute.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Lyceum-Northwestern University in 2025. Through her role at UPFI, she contributes to the effective facilitation of academic processes and student services within the institute.

Jacqueline Manalo-Nario

Administrative Officer IV

Ms. Jacqueline Manalo-Nario, Administrative Officer IV at the UP Film Institute, oversees and manages key administrative functions to ensure efficient and compliant operations. She supervises administrative staff, assigns tasks, and monitors daily office activities to maintain effective workflow and quality service delivery, while ensuring that institutional policies and government regulations are properly implemented.

She coordinates with various units, faculty, and stakeholders to support the planning and implementation of programs and activities, and assists in budget preparation, resource monitoring, and report generation to aid management decision-making.

Through regular engagement with internal and external clients, Ms. Manalo-Nario facilitates coordination across offices and addresses concerns effectively. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration, further strengthening her capacity for responsive and policy-aligned administrative leadership.

Kristine Joy R. Onguda

Administrative Assistant V

Kristine Onguda is an Administrative Assistant V at the University of the Philippines Film Institute. She holds a diploma in Information and Communication Technology and a National Certificate (NC III) in Visual Graphic Design. She provides administrative and operational support in faculty and staff management, coordination, and records processing, including appointments and recruitment.

Driven by a passion for public service and creativity, Kristine combines administrative expertise with innovative thinking to support academic excellence and institutional growth.

Mario M. Palalon, Jr.

Media Production Aide

Mario is a dedicated and versatile professional with extensive experience in security operations, media support, and technical assistance. He is skilled in surveillance, incident response, audiovisual equipment management, livestream support, inventory coordination, and maintaining safe and efficient work environments. In the UPFI, he brings strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering dependable service in both security and media production settings.

Giano Ray C. Potes

Gio is a filmmaker, dramaturg, and a multi-platform cultural worker from Cainta, Rizal. A graduate of the UP Film Institute, he has made five Filipino queer short films: MARK & LENNY (2017), SUNUGIN ANG APARADOR (2018), DATING NICK (2019), JULIE (2020) and ULIT (2024). Alternating with creative works, Gio conducts workshops and lectures on various aspects of film theater. He is a part-time lecturer at the Far Eastern University and a member of the queer solidarity collective Kinaiya whose anthologies also feature some of Gio’s literary efforts. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Women and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Randy is a dedicated and hardworking administrative and technical support professional with extensive experience in equipment operations, facility management, media production assistance, and customer service. Skilled in handling audio-visual equipment, coordinating institutional facility use, inventory management, and providing technical assistance to faculty, students, and staff, he is known for being flexible, service-oriented, and able to work efficiently under pressure.

Aries C. Ferrer

Aries C. Ferrer is a filmmaker from Nueva Vizcaya based in Quezon City. An alumnus of the UP Film Institute, his films have been exhibited at Cinema Rehiyon, Sinag Maynila, and Binisaya, as well as in Chicago City and Singapore.
