MISSION & VISION
FILM HERITAGE PRESERVATION
The Film Archives of the U.P. Film Institute preserves, restores (when necessary), classifies, and catalogs its collection of films, videotapes, videodiscs, laserdiscs, compact discs, audiotapes, still photos, slides, posters, newspaper clippings, books, periodicals, and other related materials. Its comprehensive database of collections is available to faculty, students, staff, and practitioners, within guidelines formulated by the Institute.
ORGANIZATION
The Film Archives and Library form part of the CMC Library System under the CMC Librarian. Its staff consists of a librarian as head of the unit, an archivist, researchers, and technical and clerical support personnel. A Faculty Library Committee advises the Librarian on materials to acquire and formulates policies and guidelines for the operation of this unit library.
STANDARDS
All materials in the Film Archives and Library form part of the University Library collection (as stipulated in the U.P. Manual) and are subject to University guidelines pertaining to standard procedures for cataloging, organizing, and classifying library materials. Films deposited with the Archives by their owners for safekeeping and preservation are subject to special rules.
The Film Archives and Library and its audiovisual collections are housed on the 2nd floor of the Ishmael Bernal Gallery of the UPFI Film Center, where the prescribed temperature and humidity conditions are maintained to arrest the rapid deterioration of the materials.
However, the Archives’ celluloid collection has been deposited with the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ Philippine Film Archive for safekeeping in compliance with the Presidential Administrative Order No. 26 dated April 2012.
